Want the perfect Valentine’s Day? Escape your routine with a weekend getaway

“Travel brings power and love back to your life” – Rumi

This Valentine’s Day, take Rumi’s poetic advice and bring love back into your life by planning a romantic getaway. From a chocolate-covered month in Pennsylvania to a romantic weekend in Michigan’s winter wonderland, your romantic getaway could take you anywhere.

Here are several options for a romantic getaway, ranging from star gazing in the Big Apple to participating in a charity run … without pants.

Enjoy a Chocolate-Covered February in Hersey, Pennsylvania
Valentine’s Day and chocolates go together like peanut butter and jelly. And, Hershey, Pennsylvania, is – can you guess? – the headquarters of Hershey Chocolates. So what better way to celebrate the holiday than with chocolate-inspired events from one of the most famous chocolatiers – all month long.

Throughout the city, you can enjoy everything from attending chocolate and wine tastings to creating chocolate sculptures. The Hershey Store offers classes, like “Try it with Truffles” where you create your own handmade truffles or “The Heart of Chocolate” where you design a heart-shaped chocolate. There are even kid-friendly activities and events, like Hershey’s Candy & Curiosity where kids can learn the history of the Hershey Kiss.

At two Hershey hotels, guests can enjoy chocolate-covered packages. The Hotel Hershey and Hershey Lodge offer both a romantic getaway package that includes Hershey’s Signature Chocolate Martinis as well as a family getaway package designed for adventure. Plus, at The Hotel Hershey, guests can enjoy The Chocolate Spa – you don’t want to miss out on the Chocolate Immersion or the Cocoa Facial Experience.

Romance is everywhere in the Big Apple
New York City is a popular destination any time of the year, and Valentine’s Day is no exception. For a public display of love and romance, head to “Love in Times Square” where people come from around the world to declare their love with things like surprise proposals, weddings and a Vow Renewal Ceremony.

Another Valentine’s Day event in New York City goes away from the big city lights and looks to the stars at “Romance Under The Stars” at the American Museum of Natural History planetarium. You’ll enjoy live music, hors d’oeuvres and of course, chocolates.

You can also celebrate your love on the Fish Bar Valentine’s Day Dinner Cruise. You’ll set out on a three-hour night cruise complete with a four-course meal, champagne, music and the unforgettable New York City skyline. What could be more romantic?

Chocolate-lovers and families, head to Philadelphia
Enjoy romance and love at the Chaddsford Winery with a walking wine-and-chocolate tour. The tour will guide you through the historic grounds where you’ll enjoy artisan wines and award-winning wines at five stations.

The 2018 Kenneth Chocolate Lovers’ Festival is being held the Sunday before Valentine’s Day, on Feb. 1. It’s a perfect event for families with professional and amateur baking competitions – baking chocolates of course – as well as cookie decorating, face painting and more.

Looking for something more unique? Chicago is calling your name
I’m sure you can find plenty of traditional events to attend in Chicago on Valentine’s Day, but their calendar is full of unique events that you won’t find elsewhere.

Have you ever considered going on a naked scavenger hunt? No, it’s not what you think – you’ll be fully dressed as you enjoy search for and scrutinize nudity in artwork at The Naked at the Art Museum Scavenger Hunt. Head to the Art Institute of Chicago to take part in this unconventional Valentine’s Day celebration.

Science-lovers will enjoy “The Love Bug – Beetle Sex and Valentine’s,” a unique – and somewhat disturbing – presentation from The Field Museum at The Hideout. You can sip on a drink while learning the ins and outs of bug sex during the most romantic time of year.

Head outdoors to the Chicago Botanic Gardens to enjoy The Orchid Show, running from Feb. 10 through March 25. The event honors the rich Asian culture with a special focus on colorful, native orchids. While this might not be a Valentine’s Day-inspired event, walking through over 10,000 beautiful orchids with Japanese-style decorations and landscape is breathtaking – especially when you experience it with your loved ones. In addition, they have regular after-hours events that take The Orchid Show to the next level with things like sake, poke bowls and music.

Finally, if you want to take your pants off in public, register for Cupid’s Undie Run. Don’t be ashamed, either. You’re running for a good cause: Cupid’s Charity. While running around in your underwear isn’t for everyone, but everyone can participate in this charity run – it’s only a “mile(ish)” so you don’t have to be a trained athlete. This event isn’t a Chicago-only event though. Major cities nationwide are hosting their own Cupid’s Undie Run.

Don’t like chocolate? Don’t come to New Hampshire
The 29th Annual Chocolate Festival in Intervale, New Hampshire, attracts chocoholics from across the country year after year. Festival-goers ski or snowshoe the trails to visit all of the Trailside Chocolate Stops, each offering a trailside treat with chocolate goodies like chocolate-dipped strawberries and chocolate fountains. People first come to the Chocolate Festival for the delicious treats but they return for the scenery, the hospitality and the experience – and for more chocolates.
