Pinterest has become the trendiest new destination for the travel industry. From city tourism bureaus to hotel companies and travel publishers, the photo collection and sharing site is yet another social spot online for tourism marketers to spread their messages — in this case, visual ones. "I knew it would have some legs especially from the tourism industry side of things," said Karen Fashana, marketing manager for Visit Buffalo Niagara, who just started using Pinterest a couple weeks ago. "It's a very visual platform and travel lends itself well to that." More

Americans plan to travel more for less this spring

Americans are more positive about the number of days they intend to travel this spring but they are not as positive about their spending according to a national survey by D.K. Shifflet and Associates. While both measures are up over 2011, the net increase for leisure travel is greater than planned spending indicating that travelers plan to travel more and spend less. Startup free hotel content distributor Global Hotel Exchange is expecting to open customer bookings on March 15 after signing up some of the world's most prestigious hotels. Among the hotels that have added their inventory to the system prior to launch are The Waldorf Astoria, Trump International in Miami, and Gstaad Palace in Switzerland. Residents sue Anaheim over hotel tax incentive

A group of Anaheim residents has filed a lawsuit against the city over a plan to give the developers of two luxury hotels near Disneyland up to $158 million in tax incentives. The lawsuit was filed recently in Orange County Superior Court and accuses the City Council of giving away public funds and violating environmental laws. The council voted 3-2 to allow the hotels to keep the bed tax for 15 years for the 866-room project. More
