10. Information technology training for non-IT professionals to boost Ontario's productivity and performance

From May 2, 2013: A 12-month made-in-Canada competency-building and training project, "Digital Competencies and Training Modules for Non-IT Professionals," is now underway. This project is paid for in part by the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities' Sector Initiatives Fund.

9. Canada behind in ICT development

From Oct. 10, 2013: Canada is ranked 20th in overall ICT development for the third consecutive year by the International Telecommunications Union. ITU's ICT Development Index (IDI), widely recognized as the most accurate measure of overall national ICT development, ranks 157 countries according to their level of ICT access, use and skills, and compares 2011 and 2012 scores.

8. Athabasca University: MSc IS program (I.S.P/ITCP holders)

From June 27, 2013: Always wanted to pursue post-graduate education, but lacked the requisite educational background? If you hold the Information Systems Professional (I.S.P.) designation or Information Technology Certified Professional (ITCP) designation, you will be able to pursue your dreams through the Athabasca University's Master of Science in Information Systems program.

7. CIPS 2012-2013 Annual Report now available

From July 11, 2013: In early 2012, CIPS members from across the country came together to create a plan for a renewed and enriched CIPS. Through February to June of 2012 the transformation plan was fleshed out with the help of the coalition, the Strategic Planning Committee and Michael Schiel of Western Management Consultants.

6. CIPS Response — 2014 Immigration Levels CIC Call for stakeholder input

From Sept. 12, 2013: CIPS agrees with the current rate of immigration (approximately 0.8 per cent) While the Information and Communications Technology Council predicts a shortage of ICT workers to the year 2016, those shortages are for certain skills and with an amount of experience.

4. Call for CIPS Member Input — 2014 Immigration Levels

From Aug. 15, 2013: Citizenship and Immigration Canada is looking for feedback on immigration to Canada. Specifically, they want feedback on setting immigration levels. This means the number of new permanent residents that Canada should plan to admit for 2014.

2. New CIPS ethics exam required for I.S.P. and ITCP applicants in 2014

1. CIPS introduces changes to the re-certification program

From June 13, 2013: After a review of global trends in professional certification programs, the CIPS National Board of Directors approved changes in March 2013 to the re-certification policies. Globalization and economic realities have made the I.T. job market highly competitive. New, cutting edge technologies become stale faster as development cycles speed up and newer products are released.
