Questions not included in the CIPS Ethics exam
IT World Canada
To earn the professional designation of Information Systems Professional, or I.S.P., CIPS now requires applicants to pass an ethics exam. I was on the committee that helped create that exam and I think we can learn almost as much from the questions we did not include as from those questions that were approved.

Understanding the new Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation - PDF (Member-Only Content)

Lisa Abe-Oldenburg, Partner of Bennett Jones LLP, presented an overview of Canada's new Anti-Spam Legislation which comes into force July 1, 2014. The new law affects all businesses in that it prohibits the sending of commercial electronic messages, altering of transmission data and the installation of software, without certain prescribed consent, informational and technical requirements.

iTech: IT Infrastructure & Cloud Services Conference in Toronto

CIPS Manitoba 24th Annual Golf Tournament

It is the pleasure of the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) Manitoba to make a limited number of spaces available for members and non-members to enjoy a day of golf in the company of their peers in the information technology community. Parental experts say its always wise to explain to children why you say no to them. It turns out that's good advice for adults, too, if an organization wants better IT security. According to a study conducted by Telus and the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Business, Canadian organizations that explained security policies clearly to employees had fewer data breaches.

Privacy commissioner's office loses sensitive data

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada has lost an unencrypted hard drive containing salary information of about 800 current and former employees. "This is humbling," said Chantal Bernier, interim privacy commissioner, in a recent interview, after receiving the first draft of an internal review of the incident.
