How to handle an ethical dilemma

When a problem arises often the key to a solution is to continue to work the "in between" options so extreme actions aren't necessary. Here's how you do it Ethical dilemmas often happen when two or more ethical issues urge contradictory actions.

If you were working on software that managed an elevator or a car, how would you resolve any concerns about safety if you had signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)? You need to protect the public good, but you must maintain confidentiality. You need a framework for ethical decision making.

CIPS INTERVIEWS: Ambassador Thomas Pickering Founding Co-Chair of IEA — International Relations, Government, Innovation, Business, Investment, and Policy Top Authority

This week, Stephen Ibaraki has an exclusive interview with Ambassador Thomas Pickering.

Ambassador Thomas Pickering, Ambassador Retired, joined Boeing in 2001 upon his retirement as US Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs, a position he held since May 1997. He served as Senior Vice President of International Relations as a member of the Executive Council of The Boeing Company until July 1st 2006, where he oversaw the company's international affairs, including those with foreign governments. He has been a Senior Advisor for the company since. In December 2006, he became Vice Chair of Hills & Company, which provides advice and counsel to a number of major US corporations. Ambassador Pickering was briefly President of the Eurasia Foundation, a Washington-based organization that makes small grants and loans in the states of the former Soviet Union.

Upcoming Android to have enterprise security features

This year's edition of the Google I/O developers conference opened with a focus on the next version of Android and how it will work its way into cars, TVs and wearable devices. But there was also enterprise news. Google said the next version of the mobile OS, for the moment dubbed Android L, will have an Android for Work component that will allow corporate and separate apps to be held on a single device.

IFIP News June 2014 Issue

This year was a proactive year for IFIP's involvement at WSIS. IFIP IP3 attended the WSIS forums in 2012 and 2013. IP3 were also involved in the MPP process. This year, IFIP was much more involved in the WSIS High-Level Event, and was a contributing partner. IFIP received great visibility, and was present at four separate sessions. More details on each of these aspects of IFIP's presence at WSIS follow.
