CIPS member Daryl Hepting kicks off the new ITWorldCanada blog with a post about the importance of getting youth interested in IT careers
CIPS
Computing is many things: a career, an academic discipline, and an increasingly-essential part of daily life for everyone in Canada. Yet, computing (or more generally, information and communication technology [ICT]) is misunderstood: young people (according to a 2009 Conference Board of Canada survey of Grade 9 and 10 students) may not know about careers in ICT.

August CIPS Volunteer of the Month: Richard Thompson, FCIPS
CIPS
CIPS has provided me with an amazing network of people all across Canada including some who have become strong friends. I learned lots from CIPS conferences and my time on CIPS boards gave me lots of management and governance experience. The work on accreditation both introduced me to academics and the intricacies of their world. It is fair to say that CIPS broadened my horizons and helped me move from a technical approach to a complete approach to business problems and their solution.

CIPS INTERVIEWS: Chat with Dr. Mathai Joseph: Internationally Renowned Author, Executive, Researcher, and Technology Advisor; Distinguished Computer Scientist
CIPS
"The first computer I saw was in 1963. It was the TIFRAC, built at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. I was studying for an M.Sc. in Physics with Electronics at the University of Bombay (now Mumbai) and a fellow student who worked at the TIFR invited two of us to see 'The Computer.' Getting into TIFR was easy: he had told us to nonchalantly get onto the TIFR bus at its first stop. The bus took us to the back of the building and we asked our way up to his office. He looked pleased, self-important and slightly embarrassed to have us in tow as we walked towards 'The Computer Hall.'"
