Transparent does not always mean ethical. We can be told about things that are not fair or right and then be given no choices. But transparency is definitely a good step toward enabling ethics. Certain facts tend to get hidden when you deal with computers.

I've learned a lot from my position on the CIPS NS board and feel I've grown immensely as a person, both personally and professionally. I've only been volunteering for CIPS for about a year and a half, but have had great opportunities to make some really solid connections and memorable experiences working with some other very talented volunteers and meeting lots of extremely interesting people. I can't put a value on that kind of experience.

Another fabulous ICE Conference

The reports are in — the 32nd annual CIPS Alberta ICE Conference was a HUGE success! Of the 98 per cent of participants who responded to surveys 95 per cent gave top marks of 4 and 5 out of 5 to the speakers and their presentations. Attendees agreed, ICE 2013 was interesting, valuable, informative and engaging.

CIPS Honorary Fellow Douglas William (Bill) Rogers (Feb. 14, 1921 - Aug. 30, 2013)
CIPS
Douglas William (Bill) Rogers FCA, Honorary Fellow CIPS, the first Auditor General of Alberta, passed away on Aug. 30, 2013, at the age of 92. He was born in Birmingham, England, in 1921, and came to Canada in 1945 with the Royal Air Force.

IFIP issues statement on intentional weakening of security and trust mechanisms in ICT and the Internet by government agencies and other major actors

The reports about security weaknesses in ICT and the Internet and the subsequent discussions about trust mechanisms and trusted parties have motivated IFIP to issue a statement on the topic. IFIP with its diverse international structure of around 50 member societies is not the body that issues statements on current issues lightheartedly, but the seriousness of the issue led to a clear statement, accepted by its General Assembly.
