Iowa Lawmakers Try to Nail Down Construction Procedures
The Des Moines Register
As Iowa lawmakers continue to dig into the multimillion-dollar mess at the Fort Madison prison, they're also unearthing concerns about construction procedures at state universities. A bill moving in the Iowa House and Senate would eliminate an exemption for the Board of Regents to the state law governing notice and bidding requirements for public construction projects. The exception means the Regents may use construction management practices that are used in many other states but are illegal for other state agencies in Iowa.

Mabey's System 160 Speeds Repair on 101-Year-Old Tunnel
Mabey Inc.
An historic tunnel in Richmond California needed rehab on its concrete lining, surface, joints and chemical grouting due to cracks on the 101-year-old Dornan Drive Tunnel. During inspection, it was discovered that structural failures at the tunnel lining were a focus of the rehab project. The tunnel liner was arched and would require a custom form built to support the liner while they filled the 163 square foot void with concrete grout. The contractor was having trouble coming up with a solution to safely support the tunnel while repairs were made. That is where Mabey came in…see the solution here.

No matter which route gets picked, the high-speed train would follow roughly the same path through Dallas County on its way to the proposed station site near downtown Dallas.
