The Washington, D.C., Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation's leadership announced a $1 million gift from the memorial's design-build joint venture team, MTTG. MTTG is a diverse design, construction management, and building team comprised of professionals from McKissack & McKissack, Turner Construction, Tompkins Builders, and Gilford Corporation. The gift will support the memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., honoring Dr. King. More
Exit 120 project coming in under budget in Nevada

The city will pay no out-of-pocket expenses for the West Mesquite/Exit 120 reconfiguration project in Nevada. Although no figures for the overall project cost were mentioned yet, City Manager Tim Hacker said the design-build job cost would be "significantly lower" than the $25 million engineer's estimate. Hacker also said the much lower cost would give the city the ability to take money budgeted for Exit 120 and look at using it in other ways to benefit the community. More

TownePlace Suites by Marriott in the Quonset Business Park is nearing completion in New Hampshire
The new "green" TownePlace Suites by Marriott in the Quonset Business Park in New Hampshire is nearing completion. The 103-key extended stay hotel is being developed as part of the Gateway Parcel Master Development by New Boston Fund Inc of Boston and Waterford Development of Needham, Mass. Pro Con, Inc of Manchester, N.H., is the architect and construction manager for the $7.5 million sustainable design-build hotel. Colwen Management of Nashua, N.H., will manage the hotel when it opens this spring. More
URS to design $1.2 billion correctional health care facility in California

Spanning 1.2 million square feet, CHCF-Stockton in California will be developed specifically to house and treat inmate-patients with chronic medical and mental health needs. It will feature a specialised diagnostic and treatment center, and community space for patients, in addition to inmate housing, administrative buildings, central kitchen, central plant, warehouse and an advanced materials management center. The facility will be constructed using design-build delivery model which is being employed for the first time at the California Department of Corrections. More
Senate passage sends 7-month highway and transit extension to president
The Senate recently approved legislation to extend federal highway and transit programs for seven months. The measure now heads to President Barack Obama for his expected signature, avoiding a suspension of reimbursements to state transportation departments that would have taken effect soon if Congress hadn't acted to extend the programs beyond their expiration.
