Thankfully, Texas legislators have filed a number of proposals this session to allow the private sector to continue to work to enhance Texas mobility. One such measure, House Bill 2861 by state Rep. Larry Phillips would authorize P3s for specific projects across the state.
At the Texas Association of Business, we ask all Texas legislators to support HB 2861 and similar measures to help build roadways, leveraging private dollars where possible.

There is a simple, commonsense proposal before our state government that would cut red tape, make the way we build important infrastructure more efficient, and save New York City’s taxpayers nearly a half billion dollars. It’s a better way of handling construction projects, called “design-build,” and Albany should authorize its use in the five boroughs in this year’s budget.

The most likely and logical strategy would be to pursue a combination of new construction projects, repairs and retrofits, selected to provide maximum bang for the buck. Repairing a structure is typically less expensive than retrofitting it by adding new components, which in turn is cheaper than building a new structure.

The Master Builders of Iowa, a chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, has awarded its 2017 Masters Award for Exemplary Construction to Mortenson Construction.

The Associated General Contractors of America has named Valley Metro's Northwest light-rail extension the winner of the 2017 Alliant Build America Award in the highway and transportation category.
The award reflects the successful delivery of a construction project involving major utility relocation in a densely urbanized community while maintaining access to neighborhoods, businesses and schools in the area, Valley Metro officials said in a press release.

Sanford said the construction industry has a lot of people who are set in their ways and resist change. But SpawGlass has deliberately cultivated a culture of innovation by correlating lean construction with virtual design. How? By engaging and enabling the expertise of every team member, Sanford said. The Japanese Kaizen system, which calls upon everyone from the assembly line to the CEO to come up with a better way to do things, is the first step toward building that culture of innovation.
The architects and construction companies who make their living designing and building healthcare facilities are bullish in their outlook on healthcare construction, despite the uncertainty surrounding healthcare policy in Washington, D.C. When asked to forecast their business prospects, half of these construction leaders predicted “slow but steady growth,” while another third foresaw a “strong” book of business ahead.
The 31st annual Modern Healthcare Design Awards winners this year reflected a pair of trends in U.S. healthcare: its growing international focus and the shift from fee-for-service to value-based reimbursement embodied in the push toward ambulatory care.
