Nevada Department of Transportation recognized for 'innovative' design-build projects

Nevada Department of Transportation says its innovative design-build highway construction method has been recognized as best in southwest United States. NDOT was named "Transportation Owner of the Year" by Engineering News-Record/Southwest Magazine. The publication cited NDOT's current design-build projects focusing on the southern portion of Interstate 15 in Las Vegas and the West Mesquite Interchange. More

New York Gov. Cuomo announces road and bridge projects in Mohawk Valley

New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced an additional and accelerated $29,886,323 investment for 32 NY Works projects that will repair 216 miles of roads and eight bridges in the Mohawk Valley and create thousands of jobs. For the transportation component of NY Works, the Department of Transportation reviewed its Capital Program and identified those projects, which can be accelerated by utilizing either the conventional design-bid-build project delivery mechanism or the newly-enacted design-build project delivery method. Last fall Fluor Transurban was negotiating a contract with the Virginia Department of Transportation to build or upgrade 29 miles of express lanes on Interstate 95 in Northern Virginia. It was critical to get a better handle on how much the roughly $1 billion project would cost. To help out, the consortium hired HNTB, a Kansas City-based engineering firm, and Dayton-based Woolpert, a geospatial firm, to conduct a preliminary design. More

Connecticut officials said plans continue to progress in advance of a major courthouse project planned for Field Street. According to Jeffrey Beckham, director of communications for the Department of Administrative Services, the project's request for proposals is being completed and will be sent out to the three pre-qualified design build firms. Department of Transportation awards contract for bridges in Brunswick, Pender

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to replace seven bridges in Brunswick County and two bridges in Pender County. The $8.3 million contract went to S.T. The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority has issued a Full Notice to Proceed to Foothill Transit Constructors - A Kiewit Parsons Joint Venture for the $486 million Foothill Extension from Pasadena, Calif., to Azusa light rail Alignment project. The Full Notice to Proceed affords the Kiewit Parsons Joint Venture the ability to implement all aspects of the design-build contract, including design and construction of the 11.5-miles of tracks, stations, crossings, bridges, utilities, maintenance facility and more. The total project budget is $735 million. More

Monmouth County, N.J., is soliciting proposals for the design, construction and long-term operation and maintenance of a 150,000-gpd landfill leachate pretreatment facility and related improvements at the Monmouth County Reclamation Center located in Tinton Falls, N.J.
