The Texas Senate recently passed the Texas Department of Transportation sunset bill, which required TxDOT to take steps to be more transparent in its road construction contracting process and granted more flexibility to pursue those projects. In the process, Ogden attached to the bill an amendment on a 22-6 vote which the Senate had previously passed, to streamline the environmental review process. More
Parsons selected for California water-reuse expansion

California's West Basin Water District has awarded its largest ever water-reuse contract to Pasadena-based Parsons Corporation on a design-build basis. The district's Edward C Little Water Recycling Facility in El Segundo, known as the only facility in the world that produces five different types of recycled wastewater, will be undergoing its fourth expansion since its original construction in 1995 from 30 MGD (113,500 m³/d) to 46 MGD (174,000 m³/d). Council approves funds for initial work on water treatment plant in Alberta, Canada

Vulcan County council in Vulcan County, Alberta, Canada, has approved funding to allow the design-builder of the new water treatment plant to proceed with the schematic design phase of the project. The County has been acting as the agent municipality for the Twin Valley Regional Water Commission, as the commission is not yet a legal entity. More
San Jose City Council in San Jose, Calif., approves $120 million convention center expansion

The San Jose City Council unanimously voted to move forward on the $120 million renovation and expansion of the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Recently, the council approved the sale of up to $150 million worth of bonds to fund the project and the city had sold $138 million. About $18 million of that will pay for financing costs and a reserve fund as security for the bond holders. The project is expected to take 24 months, with the updated convention center opening in late summer or early fall of 2013. More
Corps awards final contract for East Bank flood protection in Louisiana

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Hurricane Protection Office has awarded the final contract to provide 100-year storm protection on the East Bank in Louisiana. The $675 million design-build contract went to CBY Design Builders, a joint venture of CDM, Brasfield and Gorrie, and Yates Construction to build permanent canal closures and pump stations at the mouths of the 17th Street, London Avenue and Orleans Avenue outfall canals. More
