Segments of Grand Parkway taking shape in Texas

Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation are soliciting bids from construction companies in hopes of letting contracts for three subsequent segments of the Grand Parkway project for segments F1,F2 and G within the next several months. TxDOT published a request for qualification in November 2011 for those segments, which solicited qualified construction teams interested in entering into a design-build contract and capital maintenance agreement and, or possibly a full concession agreement with the state. More



Texas firm wins contract to build Army facility in Lake Park, Fla.

A Texas-based construction company will break ground on an Army Reserve training center next month after being awarded a design-build contract worth $16 million by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District. Blackhawk-Jamco A Joint Venture of San Antonio will build a training facility, organizational maintenance shop and storage building on 13 acres at the northeast corner of North Congress Avenue and Silver Beach Road. The three buildings will total 64,514 square feet. More

Work on highway at Pontotoc ahead of schedule

Transportation officials say the widening to four lanes of Mississippi 9 from Pontotoc to Sherman is ahead of schedule. Bill Jamieson, an MDOT District Engineer, said the project will probably be completed three months ahead of schedule. Eutaw Construction of Aberdeen is constructing the 10-mile $87.5 million four lane project from Pontotoc to Sherman. More

Pinole, Hercules Wastewater Committee to look at alternative plan

A private company is pitching a new approach to a planned upgrade for the plant that treats Pinole and Hercules, Calif., wastewater, promising that it will cost the city and ratepayers far less than a current proposal. Perc Water, which made a presentation at the Pinole City Council meeting April 17, will provide information. The company told council members it would design, build and finance a new facility that could recycle water. More

Fowler Co. of Dallas, Ore., using a vertical shaft machine made by Germany's Herrenknecht for a 145-feet-deep, 30 foot diameter launching portal as part of a $32 million sewer upgrade project in Seattle - the first time the technology has been used in the U.S. - was a matter of necessity. Walsh Construction and Heery International Inc. have been selected to build a new multi-use state correctional facility in Montgomery County, located in Skippack Township, Pa. Walsh Construction and Heery International Inc. will be awarded the mechanical, electrical and plumbing contracts after the design is complete. Pittsburgh-based Astorino will serve as the design firm. More

In one of the neighborhoods hit hardest by flooding in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath, developers have built a prototype house that's aimed at providing a quick housing solution for areas blown away by hurricanes and tornadoes or knocked down by earthquakes. The dwelling in the Lakeview section of New Orleans is somewhat box-like, with a roof that slants inward and an arched structure in front that forms a covered front porch. More

A new medical office building designed as a gateway building to the University of California, San Diego's Health Sciences and Medical Center has opened its doors to doctors and staff. Built by C.W. Driver, which led the design-build team that included Gensler as the architect and Miyamoto International as the structural engineer, the building provides much needed office space in a convenient location adjacent to medical facilities such as the Thornton Hospital and Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center. $100 million project for right of way, utilities and design-build for eight-mile roadway of the Page Avenue extension in St. Charles County. Solicitation for Letters of Interest and issuing of Request for Qualification is currently scheduled to begin in late summer 2012. Design-build contractor will be selected in early 2013.
