Recently, the Board of Commissioners of the Public Building Commission of Chicago approved the appointment of 17 design-build teams to support the 2013 School Investment Program on behalf of Chicago Public Schools.

Steve Murphy writes, "In my role at Blach, I've worked on several projects in which Blach was asked to provide 'Design-Assist' mechanical, electrical and plumbing services. What does this mean? How does this differ from true 'Design-Build?' Pacific Gas and Electric Company joins American Institute of Architects, San Francisco chapter, in partnership with Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, to announce the opening of the third annual Architecture at Zero competition for zero net energy building designs. ZNE buildings produce as much clean energy as they use during a year through a combination of designed energy efficiency and on-site, grid-tied renewable energy production.

Senators approve funds for water, flood projects in 83-14 vote
The Senate voted 83-14 for a water infrastructure bill recently, the first such bill the upper chamber has moved since 2007. Despite strong support in the Senate, the bill faces an uncertain future in the House, where lawmakers have raised concerns about allowing the Obama administration to pick the water facilities that would be boosted.
Bill rolls back energy efficiency standards for builders in North Carolina

A House committee solidly approved legislation recently that would roll back energy efficiency requirements in newly constructed commercial buildings by 30 percent in North Carolina. Supporters of the measure in the House Committee on Commerce and Job Development said that slashing conservation mandates will reduce construction costs and spur economic activity.

Music City Center took coordinated construction effort
More than 7,300 workers and 400 contractors were involved in bringing Music City Center from the drawing boards to reality.
The task of coordinating the construction of the largest municipal project in Nashville history fell to three men: Gary Schalmo of Clark Construction Group, Kevin Keller of Bell & Associates Construction LP and Don Hardin Jr. of Harmony Construction Group LLC.
Finalists chosen to build Atlanta Falcons stadium

Five finalists are in the running to build the new $1 billion stadium for the Atlanta Falcons, including the same contractor that built the home of this year's Super Bowl.
Skanska is among the finalists the Falcons named recently. It has worked on several large projects, including MetLife Stadium, home to the New York Giants and New York Jets. MetLife Stadium will host Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) is seeking a dynamic, experienced public relations and communications professional to increase the visibility and recognition of DBIA and design-build project delivery across all media platforms.
The incumbent will work closely with the Vice President of Advocacy and Outreach to develop and execute proactive communications and public affairs plans and strategies. The position will also provide oversight and management to the production of DBIA's quarterly magazine and other publications.
The successful candidate will:
* Possess top notch written and oral communication skills, with an ability to clearly and concisely express complicated concepts to a general audience,
* Be able to develop and execute medium and long-term strategic plans in the relevant fields,
* Have demonstrated success in obtaining placements.
The position reports directly to the Vice President, Advocacy and Outreach and will be located at the DBIA National headquarters in Washington, D.C. Bachelor's degree required; degree in communications or related area is desirable. Design and construction industry knowledge strongly preferred.
