New Tappan Zee work site bustles with activity
The Journal News
From a giant crane hoisting steel beams to workers tightening bolts on an emerging platform in the river, the site of the new Tappan Zee Bridge was bustling with activity recently. To promote the $3.9 billion bridge replacement, project officials took about a dozen members of the media on the river to see construction preparations. Seven low highway bridges hold similar risks to Skagit span in Washington
The Seattle Times
Washington state has seven other highway bridges with clearances as low as the Interstate 5 Skagit River bridge, where an overheight load destroyed one of four spans recently. That fact suggests that without tougher oversight of cross-state hauling, the same kind of accident could happen again.
