Augusta County officials were in a celebratory mood as they participated in a design public hearing on the Interstate 64, Exit 91 interchange project in Fishersville, Va. The final $32 million in funding for the $43.3 million project was signed into law by Gov. Robert F. McDonnell in the spring. Plans to make the improvements a design/build project will make the work quicker. "This will speed up the process," said Matt Dana, the Staunton District's location and design engineer. More

Fallbrook, Calif., library wins 'design-build' award for innovation, teamwork

While the Fallbrook Library in Fallbrook, Calif., is known for unique features such as its poet's garden and "green roof," it recently won an award honoring the architectural and construction process that brought those elements to fruition. The library won a "Magic of Design-Build" Excellence Award from the Design-Build Institute of America, which awards agencies that use a coordinated construction method in which the architects and contractor bid and work as a team, providing continual feedback to each other from design to completion. Lake County, Calif., receives $6.1 million for highway repaving projects

Lake County, Calif., has received $6.1 million in the latest round of state transportation funding for area highway improvements. On June 23 the California Transportation Commission allocated $825 million in new funding to 92 highway, transit, and rail projects that will strengthen California's economy and upgrade the state's vast transportation system. The allocations included nearly $9 million from Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved transportation bond. To date, the state has allocated nearly $8 billion in Proposition 1B funds. More
Ohio passes comprehensive design-build law
DBIA scored one of its biggest legislative victories ever recently with the enactment of a compressive design-build law. After two decades of legislative defeats design-build advocates finally prevailed in overhauling Ohio's archaic construction procurement laws that have remained relatively unchanged over the last 134 years. The bill Gov. Kasich signed into law; HB153 brings sweeping changes to the way Ohio delivers projects. More
