Walter Reed development plans advance in Washington, DC

The D.C. Council voted to approve a measure that sends the District's plans to redevelop the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for its consideration, setting up a process the District hopes will trigger the medical campus' redevelopment into a mixed-use project with new homes, offices, restaurants and shops. More



RFP issued for proposed indoor sports complex in Mesquite, Nev.

The long-awaited Request for Proposal for the proposed Mesquite Indoor Sports Center in Mesquite, Nev., was issued Thursday, July 12 by City officials to two design-build teams. The City Council approved two design-build teams at its March 12 meeting. Pride Contractors/Forsgren Associates and CORE Construction/Tate Snyder Kimsey must submit their proposed designs to the City by Aug 14. Should the Council decide to go forward with the project, they are scheduled to select the most qualified applicant at their Sept. 11 meeting. The tentative timeline given in the RFP shows a construction completion date of March 1, 2013. More

Yellowknife embarks on a five-year infrastructure building spree in Northern Territories, Canada

Recent changes in water quality regulations have prompted the City of Yellowknife in Northern Territories, Canada, to initiate a massive five-year infrastructure blitz. The city had been accumulating funds for several years to build a water treatment plant at some point in the future. Those plans were accelerated when the Government of the Northwest Territories issued new public water supply regulations in 2009, essentially adopting federal drinking water guidelines. More

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission selected, on July 10, the Walsh-Alberici Team to be the Design-Build contractor for the I-64 Daniel Boone Bridge over the Missouri River. The $125 million project will build a new I-64 bridge over the Missouri Riverto replace the deteriorated bridge built in 1935. More

Turner Universal, a subsidiary of Turner Construction Co., has been awarded a $51 million contract from the Mobile District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to design and build phase four of the sprawling Von Braun Complex at Redstone Arsenal.
