President Obama has launched a program that aims to find ways to tap more private-sector dollars to help finance a wide range of U.S. infrastructure projects, but the plan doesn't include any new federal spending.

Proposed GSA Construction Budget Shrinks in 2015
Federal Times
The General Services Administration would receive hundreds of millions of dollars to build new buildings in fiscal 2015, but less than it received last year, under legislation passed by the House July 10. The agency would be able to spend $420 million on new construction projects — compared to $506 million last year. GSA would also get $965 million for repairs and renovations, slightly less than the $1 billion received in 2014.

The de Blasio administration wants the state to give it permission to build major infrastructure projects faster and cheaper by bundling design and construction bids into a single contract. A 2011 bill authorizing design-build procurement for some state projects is credited with helping trim $1.7 billion off what is now an estimated $3.4 billion Tappan Zee Bridge project. The state has calculated that design-build projects are 27 percent less costly.

DOTD to Pursue Design-Build Construction for I-49 South Project in Louisiana

NRG Energy Inc., the Santa Clara Stadium Authority and the San Francisco 49ers recently celebrated the completion of the NRG Solar Terrace as well as the photovoltaic solar systems for the three NRG Energy Bridges at Levi's Stadium. This step makes it the first stadium in the US that is home to a professional football team with LEED certification standards incorporated into the original design and architecture.

First Green Globes Certification Given to New University of North Carolina Housing Facility

The Green Building Initiative announced that the University of North Carolina-Charlotte's Belk Hall, a student housing facility for the college's upper division students, is the first building certified under the 2013 Green Globes for New Construction (NC), according to GBI president Jerry Yudelson.

$1.8 Billion Project to Take Salt Lake City International Airport to New Heights

Construction is set to begin Friday on a new project that will take the 20 million people who fly through Utah each year to new heights. A $1.8 billion, three-story terminal and linear concourse will be under construction for the next eight to 10 years to replace the current Salt Lake City International Airport with a new airport that highlights Utah's beauty and cuts down on energy costs.
