Construction under way on $185 million proton therapy center in San Diego Health care broke ground recently on a $185 million proton therapy center that Scripps Health will use to treat cancer patients. It will be the first facility in San Diego County and only the second such center in the Western United States to offer the advanced therapy. More

Stellar Development Inc., a general contractor and design-build firm in the region, has been chosen to build the Norwegian Seamen's Church and Scandinavian Center in Davie, near Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The $3.1 million project by the Lakewood Ranch-based Stellar includes the demolition of four buildings, construction of a new community center and rectory, and renovations and additions to the existing chapel. The new construction totals about 15,000 square feet. More

Wyoming wants water treatment partner

The board of the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority will soon be looking for a business partner to design-build and run a treatment plant for wastewater from natural gas drilling operations. "We're taking solicitations of interest to see what kind of interest there is in a public/private partnership," said John Minora, president of Pennsylvania Northeast Aqua Resources, the authority’s consultant. More

Water and wastewater issues brought before the Vacaville, Calif., City Council at its meeting recently resulted in intense discussion -- and unanimous approvals. First up was the city's 2010 Triennial Water Report on the quality of the city's drinking water, relative to public health goals. The council talked over upcoming improvements to the Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant, by way of the tertiary project. An estimated $150 million in updates is slated to commence according to a tight time line in order to comply with new permit requirements issued by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board. More

The Canadian municipality of Huron East, Ontario, Canada recently selected CH2M HILL for operations, maintenance and management of the city's water and wastewater facilities. The initial five-year contract, awarded through a competitive bid process, is worth approximately $2 million Canadian and incldues an option for another five years. More
