Gov. Schwarzenegger authorizes design-build contract to accelerate highway project

Earlier this week, Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed CA Assembly Bill 2098 (AB 2098) and Senate Bill 1371 (SB 1371), authorizing design-build contracting for the SR-91 Corridor Improvement Project. According to a news wire post at Bradenton.com, "[w]ithout the best-value design-build project delivery method, this improvement project would be delayed by three to five years, causing a lost opportunity to create thousands of jobs and putting taxpayers at risk of paying more to ease congestion on the SR-91." More

The Mineta San José International Airport Terminal Area Improvement Program was selected as the Best Overall Top Project and as the best Transportation Project in Northern California for 2010 by California Construction magazine during its annual statewide competition that recognizes construction and design excellence. The project represents the first major airport design-build project in California and includes design and construction of a new terminal, access and roadway improvements, parking facilities, tenant relocations, demolition of existing facilities, and improvements to other airport facilities. Flatiron-Parsons JV bags design-build contract for Oakland airport connector in California

A joint venture of Flatiron and Parsons, with Doppelmayr Cable Car as technology supplier and Turner Construction Company as a major subcontractor, has been awarded a contract by the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District in California for the Oakland Airport Connector (OAC) Design-Build/Operate and Maintain project. More than 25 years in planning, the $361 million automated people mover project will provide a 3.2-mile connection between the Coliseum BART Station and the Oakland Airport. More
