California supes pinch off another sewer update

The San Luis Obispo County Government Center in California was about as restrained as the House of Commons at the Board of Supervisors' Oct. 5 meeting. The topic: the Los Osos Wastewater Project. The outcome: $750,000 was added to the budget, residents will soon decide how they want to bill themselves, and the contract bidding process was flipped on its head. More

County moves ahead with unique project in Minnesota

Anoka County, Minn., is moving forward with a highway project that will be the first of its kind for a county in the state. Anoka will be the first county in state to use the design-build process for a highway project – the reconstruction of Main Street from Crane Street in Coon Rapids to Ulysses Street N.E. in Blaine, just west of Highway 65. The project will be constructed in 2011 and 2012 using state turnback dollars. More

Port of Long Beach's $1 billion Gerald Desmond Bridge project in California reaches major milestone

The Port of Long Beach, one of the largest and busiest Ports in the world and a major inter-modal center for the cargo movement throughout the Western United States and beyond, has reached a major milestone in the approximately $1 billion plan to replace the Gerald Desmond Bridge on a design-build basis using the authority granted by California's design-build demonstration program. As the first cable-stayed bridge ever built in California, the project is expected to be a landmark structure for the Port and surrounding communities. More
