California Takes Significant Strides Toward Design-Build
JD Supra Business Advisor
The adoption of Senate Bill 785 signifies strong movement toward authorizing design-build procurement in California at the state and local agency levels. SB 785, effective Jan. 1, repeals several design-build statutes previously adopted by the Legislature for the purpose of testing the effectiveness and viability of design-build procurement in California. The new law resolves various problems and inconsistencies with these prior statutes by providing consolidated design-build authorization under a single source of law.
House Majority Leader McCarthy: GOP Will Build Off Highway, Port Funding Bills
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-California, said that Republicans would build off a 2012 highway funding and 2014 port spending measure to implement more reforms of government programs if they maintain the majority of the House in next month's elections. Transportation advocates have lamented the lack of long-term extension of the 2012 highway bill, which expired in September of this year.

An Investment Perspective on Green Building Market Transformation
The Huffington Post
Rick Fedrizzi writes, "Recently the Green Building Certification Institute - the independent certification organization for LEED, WELL, PEER and other sustainability standards, announced that it has acquired the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). As CEO of this organization as well as of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), I'm excited to now have Nils Kok on our team as he continues in his role as CEO of GRESB. He and I are both deeply excited, about bringing together these two platforms, as we believe that GRESB's investment perspective on green building will spur the transformation of the built environment to become more efficient and sustainable."
