Clark/McCarthy JV Design-Build Team Completes $456 Million Naval Hospital at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget

Delivering the project six months ahead of schedule and more than $100 million under budget, the joint venture (JV) design-build team of Clark Construction Group, LLC, and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., has completed construction of the new 1,000,000-square-foot (total campus) Naval Hospital at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. HKS Architects, Inc., Los Angeles, was the project architect-of-record, while HDR Architecture, Inc., San Diego, served as the architectural designer for the new hospital. Young+Co., Inc. of San Diego, HDR Architects and HKS Architects collaborated on the interior design.

Colorado State University Hires Lead Contractor for Fort Collins On-Campus Stadium Project
The Coloradoan
CSU has chosen a contractor with extensive stadium-building experience and close ties to the Fort Collins campus to begin work on its new on-campus football stadium project. CSU announced recently that it has engaged Mortenson Construction as the lead contractor for the $226.5 million stadium project. Mortenson was construction manager for Coors Field in Denver and the FedEx Forum in Tennessee.

Skanska Signs Design-Build Contract for Tunnel in Washington, D.C.

Skanska has signed a joint venture design-build contract together with JayDee for the new District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authorities Clean River's First Street Tunnel in Washington, D.C., USA. The total amount of the contract is USD 158 M, about SEK 1 billion. Skanska’s share of 60 percent is worth USD 94 M, about SEK 612 M, which will be included in the order bookings for Skanska USA Civil in the fourth quarter 2013.

Haskell Wins Contract to Support USCG FRC Readiness

In fact, he was one of the founding members of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and helped implement the system at Herman Miller and the city of Grand Rapids. Winn, who is currently running for a seat on the national USGBC board of directors, spoke with MiBiz about green building practices and LEED.

Traffic Shift Planned for I-40 in Mt. Joliet, Tenn.
The Tennessean
In a bid to help boost capacity and ease traffic, crews have started work on a $55 million project to widen a section of Interstate 40 eastbound in Wilson County, Tenn. The project will add lanes along a 7-mile stretch of the interstate from Central Pike to State Route 109. Recently, crews had already started preparations to temporarily shift traffic on the highway, splitting eastbound traffic around Mt. Juliet Road with one eastbound lane of I-40 to the right of the work zone and two lanes on the left side.

Using Public-Private Funding to Build Bridgeport Hospital in Canada

The procurement model for the Bridgepoint Active Healthcare Bridgepoint Hospital project is design, build, finance, maintain (DBFM), a common strategy used in the healthcare industry outside of the U.S. Under this model, the consortium developer, Plenary Health Bridgepoint, finances construction and maintains the project over a 30-year period. The Ministry of Health & Long Term Care (MOHLTC) pays back Plenary Health over the 30-year maintenance period, after which ownership reverts to the MOHLTC.
