The Web at 25 in the US
Pew Research Center
This report is the first part of a sustained effort through 2014 by the Pew Research Center to mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of the World Wide Web by Sir Tim Berners-Lee. Lee wrote a paper on March 12, 1989, proposing an "information management" system that became the conceptual and architectural structure for the Web. Apple's e-book appeal: Toss out the verdict, or give us a new judge
CNN Money
Apple pulled no punches in the 65-page brief it filed Tuesday, asking a higher court to overturn the controversial results of last year's e-book antitrust trial and placing blame for the outcome squarely on the shoulders of the judge who heard the case. In Apple's view, U.S. District Judge Denise Cote was not only wrong about the law when she ruled that the company orchestrated a conspiracy with publishers to fix the price of e-books, she was wrong about the facts as well.

Inkshares wants to create hybrid of traditional book publisher, crowdfunded digital platform
GigaOM

But is the old-fashioned publisher model totally without value? The founders of Inkshares don't think so — which is why they are trying to create a kind of hybrid platform that combines the benefits of crowdfunding with some of the services that traditional publishers have offered in the past.

Publishing's hits and misses
FutureBook
"Self-publishing through Amazon changed my life but the way Macmillan have handled me has made that grow." And so writes the author Kerry Wilkinson in a blog about his journey from self-published "Kindle King" to Pan Macmillan author. Kerry's blog is a necessary corrective to some of the bluster blogged about both publishing and self-publishing recently. It is open, honest and without the rancor that has come to characterize this debate.

The Barnes & Noble report
Author Earnings
In our first two reports, we concentrated on Amazon's e-book sales. We analyzed the top 7,000 e-books in three bestselling genres. Then we followed up with a look at all 54,000 ranked bestselling e-books on Amazon in a single day snapshot. We now turn our attention to the next bestselling book and e-book retailer, Barnes & Noble. The methodology is the same. Barnes & Noble's online store lists overall ranking for their e-books, and as with Amazon, current rank generally correlates with daily sales.
