What is your biggest achievement to date — personal or professional?
Apart from raising two intelligent successful daughters, one of my biggest achievements to date was to return to school at 48 years old to complete my MBA. It was both a personal and professional feat. Personal in that I had only graduated from grade 12, and in my profession people assumed I had a degree. Professional in that it helped me significantly in my business acumen and allowed us to move our business to Calgary. (I should also mention that my husband also did his MBA at the same time, while we renovated 2 houses and had two teenagers in high school.)

In general terms, Return on Investment is the gain divided by the cost. In the same way, ROI in corporate training is the gain on account of the impact of the training divided by the training cost.
Global learning technology leader D2L recently announced the results of a survey conducted by Wainhouse Research, which uncovered workplace learning preferences among 2,000 of today's knowledge workers. The survey reveals that, in some areas, youngest and oldest workers surprisingly have similar preferences when it comes to workplace learning.
In late January, Susan Dynarski, Professor of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, published an article in the New York Times calling the value of online education into question. Dynarski concludes, "The weakest students are hurt most by the online format." Given that the weakest students are often those who are already disadvantaged when they enter the school system, Dynarski's conclusions are troubling, but are they actually true?
People no longer have the capacity or appetite to spend extensive amounts of time on skill building or information gathering, says Adri Maisonet Morales, vice president, enterprise learning and development at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. Introducing Bloom, a new video-based platform, allowed BCBS of North Carolina to get employees what they needed in the moment.
In the child's tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," Goldilocks comes to a currently unoccupied house in the woods and decides to break in. (Hello! Illegal!) She decides to help herself to the occupants' food, chairs, and beds. And proclaims some of them "just right." Why is it just right? Because it meets her needs. But the other items she tried out were "just right" for the people who lived there. In other words, "just right" is about meeting specific needs.
