Most hotel contracts have a force majeure clause that allows a group to cancel in a wide variety of circumstances. One such circumstance is a labor strike that makes it impossible for the hotel to provide the services and goods it has promised or for the group's attendees to get to the event. Many planners assume that such a clause provides adequate protection. In reality, a clause that only mentions a "strike" is far too narrow, because the hotel will argue that the term is limited to formally declared strikes by organized labor, and that anything short of that is not adequate grounds for termination. AsiaWorld-Expo, Asia's leading exhibition and convention venue, has once again proven its pivotal role in the success of Hong Kong's MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industry and the local economy. The Economic Contribution Assessment Report, conducted by professional services firm KPMG Transaction Advisory Services Limited, reveals that exhibition and conference events held at AsiaWorld-Expo contributed around HK$13.4 billion (US$1.72 billion) to the local economy in 2010. The 25 percent increase over 2009 followed the positive momentum from the success of the record-breaking 'River of Wisdom — Animated Version of the Riverside Scene at Qing Ming Festival' Exhibition. This economic success likewise translated into significant job opportunities, with more than 26,000 full-time jobs generated by AsiaWorld-Expo in 2010. More

  • More than 21,000 trade visitors from 106 countries.
  • 940 suppliers from 41 countries.
  • Once again, many international exhibitors (80 percent)and visitors (72 percent).

    Kind + Jugend 2011 in Cologne, which ended on Sunday, 18 September, set new records in terms of figures for exhibitors and visitors. For the first time, more than 21,000 trade visitors from 106 countries took advantage of this international business platform in Cologne to gain a comprehensive overview of the trends and new products from the global children's outfitting sector.     More Than 2.5 Million Foreign Visitors at German Trade Fairs in 2010

    Around 2.55 million foreign visitors came to find out about products and services at German trade fairs in 2010, nearly as many as in 2008, when attendance reached a record 2.6 million. At 25.5 percent, the ratio of international visitors to overall attendance was higher than ever before.
