New bill requires hospitals to keep sex assault nurses on staff

Some of the most important decisions rape victims will make about their cases often occur in the hours immediately after their assault, when the trauma is still fresh and decision making processes can be muddled. Brenda Garrison, a certified sexual assault nurse examiner, has seen too many cases where a victim of rape seeks treatment and is referred to her, but never arrives - whether because they lacked transportation from the hospital or for other causes.

Texas has been helping abused children for 15 years

For the last 15 years in Montgomery County, TX, children who have been victims of sexual abuse have had a source of support to help get them through the aftermath. The nonprofit organization, Children’s Sade Harbor, brings together a multi-disciplinary team to handle forensic interviewing, counseling, medical services and family advocacy. All interaction with children takes place at the Children's Safe Harbor facilities in Conroe.
