Launch of a New Certification

ANCC & IAFN Announce First Board Certification Credential through Portfolio — Advanced Forensic Nursing

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) announced the launch of a new certification through portfolio for Advanced Forensic Nurses. This new certification, announced at IAFN's Scientific Assembly in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, will help validate advanced forensic nurses’ unique knowledge and skills. ANCC supports IAFN members and all advanced forensic nurses in their pursuit to be certified in their specialty area. The new certification program is scheduled to launch in November 2012.

Study: Home visiting program can dramatically reduce child abuse in the longer term

Latest research from the University of Otago, Christchurch shows the Early Start home visiting program halved rates of physical abuse against children and lowered non-accidental hospital visits by a third over a sustained period. Early Start is a home visiting program targeted at improving the well being of preschool children living in families facing multiple stresses and challenges. The program begins in infancy and can be delivered for up to five years. The Early Start program was developed in Christchurch and provided the prototype for the Government-funded Family Start program, which runs in centers around New Zealand. More

Three cases referred to the Crown Prosection Service in the last two years had significant evidential difficulties and were not pursued.
