In celebration of Manufacturing Day, Oakdale area companies including Flory Industries, Hilmar Cheese, Flowers Baking Company, Fresh Point, E. & J. Gallo and Gallo Glass will open their doors for student tours. The tours, running Oct. 3-6, include more than 300 high school and vocational training students from Modesto City Schools, Patterson Unified School District, Oakdale High School and DeHart Technical School as part of an effort to get students and educators excited about today’s manufacturing environment and draw attention to the variety of career pathways available locally in manufacturing.

If humans are hardwired to seek pleasure from food and beverage, why are we buying less soda and fast food? Such icons of indulgence are facing declines, noted Jennifer Goodrich, senior consultant at the Hartman Group. “We’ve seen categories traditionally oriented toward pleasure take a bit of a decrease in terms of growth these days,” Goodrich said during the Hartman Group’s Driving Growth 2017 symposium on Sept. 27 at the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle.

Milk is one of the most requested staples at food banks, but among the least donated. On average, people served by food banks receive the equivalent of less than 1 gallon per person per year, according to the California Milk Advisory Board.
To help fill this gap and support families in need in areas affected by hurricanes Harvey and Irma, California dairy farm families launched the Seals for Good social media challenge, which will provide up to 4,000 gallons of milk to families and children struggling with hunger.
