Experts See Brighter Days Ahead for County Tourism Industry in California

 As tourism-related businesses from all over Santa Barbara County recently gathered, panelists at the 2010 Tourism Outlook discussed the industry's recession recovery. Dan Mishell, research director for the California Travel and Tourism Commission, said the industry expects to reach 2007 levels by 2011. Keep Flu in Mind When Holding Mass Gatherings

Organizers of big sporting and cultural events should take steps to prevent the spread of swine flu, especially if local health systems aren't prepared to handle mass gatherings, the World Health Organization said. The global body said there was "ample evidence" that any unusual gathering of 1,000 people or more can help spread infectious diseases such as swine flu.

Korean Festivals Face Budget Cuts

Local film festivals and award ceremonies might face a cutback in government funding if public sentiment is critical of the programs. Referring to the recent controversy over jury standards for the nominees of the Grand Bell Prize Film Award, Yu In-chon, Korea's minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, expressed in a briefing with a local film body that the government should stop funding the award "if there is a continuing noise" about the venue's legitimacy.

European Sponsorship Association Slams Alcohol Claims
