Take IGDA's Developer Satisfaction Survey
IGDA
The IGDA exists to advance the careers and enhance the lives of game developers worldwide. To aid us in doing this and to better serve our members, information about who they are, what they do and how they feel about their industry is mission critical.

On Monday, 17 March, the IGDA — in partnership with M2 Research and the University of Western Ontario — launched an annual Developer Satisfaction Survey to update our knowledge of the current demographic composition of the video game industry, understand general quality of life and gauge developers’ overall satisfaction with the state of the game industry and where it’s going.

The results of this survey will be released by E3 (early June 2014) and will be used to assess the overall state of developers’ quality of life, diversity in the industry, and job satisfaction in order to inform the IGDA on areas of action. For 2014 only, the survey also includes additional questions that reflect our more in-depth Quality of Life survey which is conducted in 5 year intervals (2004, 2009, etc.).

To take the survey, visit http://bit.ly/IGDA-DSS2014.

2014 IGDA Board election results
IGDA
Another year has passed and another IGDA Board of Directors election has concluded. We are very happy to announce the results for the 2014 IGDA Board of Directors election.

We met quorum and Anne Toole and Jon Grande were confirmed as the two elected board members. With two seats appointed seats still unused, the board also reviewed Justin Berenbaum's background and skill set and made the decision to appoint Justin to one of the open seats and are happy to announce he has accepted the appointment.

This means that all three members will take their seats on 1 April and will serve a 3-year term. We'll be updating the About the Board pages on our website and Board Blog shortly.

Thank you to outgoing board member Brian Robbins for his service to the IGDA and Dustin Clingman whose term is ending but stays on for one more year as Chair Emeritus.

How The Washington Post reported on gender and video games in 1994
The Washington Post
The portrayal of women in video games and the gender dynamics of the gaming community have received ample attention in recent years. While now nearly half of gamers are female, examining the way girls and women are treated in the culture or commenting on the lack of their presence in professional gaming and e-sports can still ruffle feathers.

Do moral decisions in video games reflect the gamer making them?
Game Revolution
Paul Tamburro writes, "Do you ever feel guilty about the decisions you make in video games? I do. I felt guilty about setting off the Megaton nuke in Fallout 3, but did it anyway because I figured seeing the nuclear explosion would be a lot more interesting than not seeing it. All those people I’d killed, though, all those polygons I’d eviscerated in order to quench my thirst for a mighty explosion made me feel shameful."
