IGDA Business and Legal SIG publishes paper on trademarks
IGDA
In light of King, the company behind the mobile hit Candy Crush Saga, attempting to trademark the words “candy” and “saga” earlier this year, the IGDA’s Business and Legal Special Interest Group has published a white paper discussing the topic, and how trademarks function in the game industry.

“The IGDA B&L SIG believes that every developer should understand what a trademark is and the ways a trademark can and cannot be used. We strongly encourage game developers and publishers to educate themselves about trademark law and to comply with both the letter and the spirit of the law.”

GDC Europe and Gamescom IGDA Scholars application open
While judges deliberate over the many applications the IGDA Scholars program received for E3 this year, they're delighted to announce that the program will once again be offering scholarships to both GDC Europe and Gamescom.

Last year’s Scholars met with a number of big-name indie developers, Microsoft and industry legend Brian Fargo amongst others. They got into the very first showing of Destiny on the Gamescom show floor, and they got to meet representatives of several AAA studios to chat about their career aspirations and get advice from people who know what they are talking about.

The only question that remains is: why haven’t you applied yet? You can find more information on the Scholarships and what we are looking for here, or alternatively jump right in to the application form here! Deadline for applications is 20 May, so get writing!
