How Apple's updated Metal is building better video games
Tech Times
Apple showed off its latest and greatest software, with upgrades to all three of its operating systems — OS X, iOS and watchOS. Video games didn't get a ton of love during the event, but a few things grabbed our attention. They're not things that will impact the lives of gamers so much as developers, but the end result promises better and more immersive games.

Valve will return the money within a week through the player's payment method or, failing that, Steam Wallet.

A method-acting approach to designing casual games
Gamasutra
Probably one of the most famous practices in Hollywood, method acting is defined as "a technique of acting in which an actor aspires to complete emotional identification with a part." Jeremy Kang has always found method actors pretty inspirational, and in designing Free-to-Play casual games, he’s been inspired to try to take a similar approach — one in which he tries to remain "in character" of a casual player during development — in an attempt to not just design ideas purely based on theory, but on actually trying to approach a game like a casual player.

How video games make you work
The New Yorker
Simon Parkin writes, "Video games usually offer the chance to escape the mundane texture and circumstances of everyday life, by pushing us into situations and roles that are too dangerous, expensive, or rarefied for reality. We become the marine, the race-car driver, the fighter pilot, the international soccer star. But many games mimic the rhythm and monotony of more familiar jobs, allowing us to rehearse or re-enact a working day once we’ve clocked out. In most cases, the designer zeroes in on the most interesting challenge or nuance of a profession, and turns it into a game. But in some titles the re-creation is more thorough."
