TONIGHT — IGDA @ E3 Networking Event
The IGDA will once again host a professional networking event at E3 2015! The event will be at The Figueroa Hotel in Tangier Room Wednesday, 17 June from 6-9 PM PST. This event provides a casual atmosphere designed for networking, discussion and relaxing after a busy day on the show floor (or in constant meetings) — and without needing to shouting over really loud music. IGDA Leadership Summit — Registration Now Open
Heading to Seattle, US for PAX Prime? The Leadership Summit takes place just two days following that major event — 2-3 September — extend your stay in the Seattle summer and be ready to be challenged by dynamic speakers in both a keynote lecture and workshop-style learning environment.

Building on its legacy running the successful IGDA Leadership Forums of the past, the International Game Developers Association is excited to announce the IGDA Leadership Summit will focus on key strategies and skill sets required for exhibiting leadership in today’s evolving game industry. From executives and business development to producers, artists, writers and programmers, the goal of this event is to help the developer community to become better leaders regardless of their level or function, towards to the goal of creating engaging, successful games.

The 2015 Leadership Summit is bringing together a great group of dynamic, diverse speakers to explore forms of leadership, areas of application and provide hands-on guidance for navigating tough issues.

One Month Remaining for Tokyo Games Show & CEDEC Scholarship Applications
One month remains to apply for the IGDA Scholarship program for Tokyo Game Show (TGS) & the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC)! We are thankful to the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association for their generosity and for providing up and coming talent with this opportunity. Students across the globe, studying all game industry related disciplines are welcome to apply. Events for CEDEC will be held 25-28 August in Yokohama, Japan. Events for Tokyo Game Show will be held 16-20 September in Chiba City, Japan.

Like other IGDA Scholars experiences, recipients will attend one of the conferences on a free pass, either a CEDEC regular pass or TGS business pass. Recipients will also go on a game studio tours (TBD), attend networking events, and be assigned industry veterans to mentor them while at the conferences.

Last year students toured Aiming, GeePlus, GREE, Land Ho!, Tayutau K.K., and Ubiquitous Entertainment! Help Evaluate Serious Game Showcase and Challenge Finalists
The Serious Games Showcase & Challenge is the premiere venue for recognition of excellence in the field of Serious Games development. The challenge prides itself on helping to foster creativity and innovation in Serious Games for the last ten years as part of NTSA's I/ITSEC Conference held in Orlando, US.

The Challenge is looking for evaluators within the IGDA to evaluate this year’s finalists. We’re searching for a diverse set of reviewers representing a wide range of disciplines including design, software engineering, asset development, production and more. As part of the evaluation process, you will be asked to review several finalist games during the September to November timeframe. Your feedback will be critical in determining which of the finalists take home an award. We understand that our evaluator’s time is often at a premium and can work with you to find a level of commitment that works for you. IGF China Call for Submissions

The Game Developers™ Conference China (GDC China), the premier professional conference for creators of video games and interactive entertainment in Asia, will be returning to Shanghai, China on 25-27 October at the Shanghai International Convention Center.

Along with GDC China comes the Independent Games Festival (IGF) which encourages innovation in game development and recognizes the best independent game developers. Act fast and submit your game before 20 July to be considered for the 7th annual IGF China.

This crowdfunded camp scholarship will help more girls create video games
Growing up with a Pakistani family in a part of the United Arab Emirates where girls weren't encouraged to look beyond marriage, Laila Shabir still learned how to program before she was a teenager. She built her first computer by age 12, and even set up her own middle school's payroll system. Now, equipped with a degree in economics from MIT and the determination to improve access to education, she's working to show young girls that they can do the same.

Microsoft shows off some brilliant-looking indie games
Microsoft just devoted a fairly sizeable chunk of its E3 press briefing to show off quite a good slate of independent games. Chris Charla, head of Xbox’s indie game development division, said that over 1,000 developers are currently creating Xbox One games through the program.

Research: Active games better for children than playing outside
According to new research from the University of Tennessee, games that use motion sensing camera technology like those that use Microsoft's Kinect are better at promoting and fostering an active lifestyle compared to traditional activities. The study, spearheaded by Dr. Hollie Raynor, director of the University of Tennessee's Healthy Eating and Activity Laboratory, was recently published in the Games for Health journal.

ESPN The Magazine is dropping an "eSports" issue in the coming days with Seattle Seahawks star Marshawn Lynch gracing its cover. In a feature story, Lynch, who is notoriously uncooperative with the media, gives an exclusive account of his role in Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Yes, the video game. Lynch is the first athlete to be featured in the immensely popular first-person shooter video game franchise.

How a French studio set out to make the next great Japanese RPG
The day Mario Rizzo found out he was going to meet one of his idols, he wasn’t even slightly prepared. Rizzo had been the CEO of Kobojo, a small French free-to-play game developer, for about six months, and he was working nonstop the whole time, attempting to change the company’s direction. Previously, Kobojo had made small, simple Facebook games. Under Rizzo’s guidance, the team pursued something new; it wanted to make a Japanese role-playing game.
