Many of our members, affiliates and partners rely on several popular crowdfunding platforms to build their communities and financially support their work. Please take a few moments to check out the projects on Kickstarter and Indiegogo that our members have been dedicating their hard work and energy towards.
If you would like to have a project you’d like showcased on one of our pages, fill out the application form here.
In July 2015, developer Comcept launched a Kickstarter campaign for its game Red Ash. It didn’t go well.
Despite raising over $500,000 in pledges, the campaign missed its target and critics pummeled its approach — pointing to Comcept launching the campaign before seeing through a previous one, announcing a console port without identifying which console and continuing the campaign after finding external funding.
For production studio Hyde, which had teamed with Comcept to develop the game, the campaign presented a new problem.
We’re happy to say that we’ll have more women speakers than ever before at GamesBeat 2015, and the topic of diversity will come up often. We consider these 17 all-star women to be one of the attractions that will make our conference unique and a must-attend event for industry leaders.
Finally, a subscription service to satisfy those gaming needs. Sure, there are a couple other monthly video game subscription services that send you retro games for old systems, or a mystery once-a-month title with the focus playing on nostalgia or maybe getting some little-known game more traction. Humble Bundle, the company known for promoting indie developers as much as they help some favorite charities, is getting into the monthly box mix.
Looking for a scary, new video game for October? We suggest Nevermind, a horror thriller that — with the right equipment — actually teaches you a valuable life skill: how to chill out when you're anything but calm.
On the face of it, Karla Zimonja and Steve Gaynor are living the indie developer dream. Since the 2013 release of Gone Home — a commercial hit and a critical darling — the owners of Fullbright have moved from a shared house setup into their own studio. They've nabbed console-exclusive funding from Microsoft and are now deep into development of their second game, Tacoma, which was recently featured on the cover of Game Informer.
Los Angeles Times
The Beginner's Guide is a video game that opens with an existential question rather than an objective: Is it possible to get to know someone by analyzing his art?
Play the game, and over the course of its two or so hours a number of even more compelling inquires arise, all of them relating to the difficulty of maintaining friendships, fostering intimacy and recognizing selfishness.
Watch any good TV lately? Remedy Entertainment's Sam Lake believes we’re experiencing a golden age of television, one that affords developers who take the time to study it some useful lessons on how to craft meaningful characters and narratives within the constraints of a video game.
Take your game development career to new levels with our multidisciplinary Master's program.
