There is another amazing survey we support to help highlight key things in our industry. Developer Economics is the largest, most global developer research program today. Now reaching 13,000+ developers in over 140 countries, VisionMobile's Developer Economics is the de-facto leader in tracking developer trends.
Currently in its 10th edition, the research program tracks developer sentiment across platforms, revenues, apps, tools, APIs, segments, business models, and regions. Metrics include monetization for mobile and cloud, IoT popularity, desktop app positioning, and much more. VisionMobile invites you to participate in its latest 15-minute survey. Participants that do so will receive special prize offerings for an iPhone 6s, Amazon Voucher, and other neat prizes developers have asked us for. Survey respondents will also receive access to interactive graphs that help compare themselves with other devs from their country – or their country with other countries from the developer landscape. As always, the key findings will be released as a free report for the entire developer community. Click here to participate.

South by Southwest has pulled the plug on two panels meant to address the horrifying and ongoing issue of harassment found within the video game community, often targeted towards women. The arts and interactive media festival, held annually in Austin, had announced the twin panels — titled "SavePoint: A Discussion on the Gaming Community" and "Level Up: Overcoming Harassment in Games" — just last week. But organizers say SXSW has already suffered from "numerous threats of on-site violence related to this programming."
Copenhagen-based BetaDwarf employs 18 people. The team had an inkling something was afoot, when their normally effervescent leader emerged with a long face, to hold their daily morning scrum. Kabbelgaard told them he needed to share some bad news about the company's financial situation. He said he wanted to try and find a way forward.
The cash situation didn't take long to explain. BetaDwarf was out of money. The coffers were empty. Their game — Forced: Eternal Arenas — was months away from completion.
Dean Takahashi writes, "Perhaps the most unusual game company I met while in Israel was MyTona, a studio founded by twin brothers who grew up in one of the coldest regions of the world in Russia’s Siberia. MyTona has more than 100 employees in Yakutsk, and it published a hit game The Secret Society: Hidden Mystery, via Swedish game publisher G5. The game has been downloaded more than 30 million times since 2012."
Twitch's long-awaited dedicated viewing app for PlayStation 4 is now available to download via the PlayStation Store in North America.
The free app, which weighs in at just 54 MB, was announced at TwitchCon in September. Twitch confirmed at its first dedicated convention that the Twitch viewing app will also come to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, though those versions are not currently listed in the PlayStation Store.
At least some of the people who lined up at GameStop locations Oct. 26 to buy the new Halo game the moment it came out were younger than Halo itself. Microsoft’s most popular gaming franchise turns 14 this year. And while the game released is called Halo 5, it is really the thirteenth version of Halo to have been published. Microsoft holds this as an example of the enduring appeal of the Halo story. It’s also a reminder of how much major game companies rely on seemingly endless versions of a few popular franchises.
This week at the 2015 IndieCade Awards, developer Sam Barlow’s Her Story earned the Grand Jury Award at the annual IndieCade 2015 award show. Game developer and Purple Moon co-founder Brenda Laurel also received a Trailblazer Award for her efforts to bring virtual reality game design and the presence of games made by women front and center.
