Camilla Seibezzi, like many parents, picks her daughter up after school, often taking her to swim at the local pool when it's warm. Unlike other parents, however, Seibezzi, 50, needs a legal document saying she is an authorized caregiver in order to take her daughter just about anywhere.

A proposal in the Russian parliament that could have punished gays and lesbians who come out with up to two weeks in jail has stalled just as it was scheduled for its first reading.
The bill was scheduled to be debated in the Duma, but the chamber adjourned without taking it up. The Duma’s Committee on Constitutional Legislation voted to recommend rejecting the bill, but it remained on the Duma's calendar for the Jan. 22 session and LGBT rights advocates told BuzzFeed News that they were concerned it could still be adopted over the Committee's recommendation.

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis became the first Greek official to sign a same-sex civil partnership agreement following the recent approval of legislation granting homosexual couples almost equal rights to their heterosexual counterparts.
"As the first day that the law is being implemented, today is very important for civil rights in Greece and the country's compliance with international reality," Kaminis said during the signing ceremony at Athens City Hall.

Conservative Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva vetoed a bill giving adoption rights to gay couples in one of his last political moves before newly-elected Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa takes the office. The law allowing gay couples to adopt passed through parliament on 18 December, and was one of socialist Prime Minister Antonio Costa's campaign promises.
