IGLTA Yucatan FAM: Great adventures in Mexico
IGLTA    Share    E-mail article
A global mix of 10 IGLTA members participated in IGLTA's Yucatan FAM trip in late February. The trip kicked off with a stay at the Sun Palace in Cancun before visiting the beautiful ruins of Ek Balam, the Yucatan jungle, the city of Valladolid, the ruins of Chichen Itza (with excellent guide Don Umberto), the city of Merida, Celestun National Park with its abundant flamingos, and Izamal, the "yellow city," built on the remains of a pre-colonial Mayan city. Other highlights included a swim in a private cenote; a stay at Hacienda Santa Rosa, built in the 17th-century and now a boutique hotel; a visit to the Yucatan jungle; the light and sound show in Uxmal; the gay nightlife of Cancun and Merida; and fine Yucatan cuisine. The final night was spent in Playa del Carmen in hotel Reina Rojo. Many thanks to the tourist office of the state of Yucatan for its support with this FAM.
