Russia's bid to curtail LGBT benefits at the UN fails
BuzzFeed News
A Russian proposal to cut benefits to the spouses of some LGBT employees at the United Nations failed in a vote that was far less close than opponents of the draft had feared. Russia had brought the vote at the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly, which handles administrative and budgetary affairs, to consider the question of whether U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon overstepped his authority in expanding the number of employees eligible for benefits for their same-sex spouse.

LGBT travelers: Being gay should never inhibit a love of travel — or the love for your partner
The Independent
Simon Forrester writes: Expectations of a "romantic break" vary enormously. But whether you are in the first flush of romance, honeymooners, or looking to rekindle an old flame, everyone should feel free to show affection on holiday. To mark the first anniversary of same-sex marriage in England and Wales this week, Further Afield, the gay-friendly accommodation website that I launched five years ago, carried out a snap survey of its gay and lesbian subscribers.

Bills on 'religious freedom' upset capitols in Arkansas and Indiana
The New York Times

Seeking home: The lives of gay and transgender asylum seekers of the Middle East
The Washington Post
Beginning in Damascus, Syria, in 2010, photojournalist Bradley Secker began to document the lives of gay Iraqi refugees that had fled Iraq to escape homophobic violence. Shortly after chronicling their stories, Secker crossed borders and traveled to Turkey, following Iranians, Turkish Kurds, Syrians and more Iraqis who were claiming asylum abroad or fighting for their rights in their home country. Hundreds of individuals from the Middle East apply for resettlement overseas every year because of increased discrimination against their sexuality or gender identity.

The Telegraph
Gay men who have a baby born by a surrogate mother are entitled to paid maternity leave, a South African court ruled recently.
