US President Barack Obama receives Gay & Lesbian Travel award

United States President Barack Obama will receive the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association's prestigious Chair Award this year. "This administration has gone to great lengths to make the U.S. more welcoming to the global LGBT community and has allowed individuals with HIV/AIDS to travel freely," says IGLTA Board Chair Dan Melesurgo. "We all know travel opens minds and changes perceptions. The actions of President Obama and his administration certainly have created a more positive experience for all of us."

IGLTA Foundation announces 2015 Conference Scholarship recipients

LGBT-rights group urges Guam governor to allow gay marriage

The nation's largest gay rights organization and Guam's biggest newspaper are blasting the territory’s governor for not allowing marriage licenses to be issued to same-sex couples. Guam's attorney general said government officials should begin issuing licenses after a lesbian couple filed a federal lawsuit because they were denied a marriage application. But state officials, backed by the governor, refused the attorney general's directive because it wasn't a binding legal opinion.

Northern Ireland parties' LGBT manifesto pledges

The largest party Northern Ireland, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), has not mentioned LGBT issues at all in their manifesto. They have historically opposed any and all LGBT rights votes in Westminster and Stormont. They most recently drafted a Conscience Clause which would exempt religious people from following equality laws.

As federal courts and state and local governments have opened the door to same-sex marriage, for example, state legislatures in Republican-controlled capitals have been responding with measures to limit gay rights, quash same-sex marriage and take away local control over LGBT anti-discrimination policies.
