LGBT rights victory handed down in Kenyan court

The High Court of Kenya ruled recently that the board overseeing NGOs cannot bar an LGBT rights group from formally organizing, a ruling that may create precedent to win protections for LGBT people under the East African country's constitution. Eric Gitari attempted to register the organization he leads, Kenya's National Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission (NGLHRC), with the office responsible for granting the permits that give official status to NGOs in the spring of 2013.

Supreme Court justices skeptical of redefining marriage

After the first two hours of oral arguments on gay marriage at the Supreme Court, neither of the two most crucial votes on the Court tipped their hand. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Anthony Kennedy, considered by most experts the deciding votes on the case, asked tough questions of both sides of the case and didn't give much indication which way they would vote.

ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association applauds the unanimous approval of the Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics (GIGESC) Act by the Maltese Parliament. The law, which is the outcome of a long collaborative effort between LGBTIQ activists, politicians and other stakeholders was approved on 1 April 1.

A few worried that designating an envoy expressly for the purpose of promoting the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people around the world — an official goal of U.S. diplomacy since 2011 — would stovepipe the issue and lead others at State to neglect it.

'Bollywood is filled with closet gays' says senior Indian actress

A leading actor in who acts as the public face of the LGBT community in India says it is high time for Indian cinema to pave the way to eradicate anti-gay social taboos especially since Bollywood is filled with closet gays. "Bollywood is filled with closeted gays who pretend to be straight. It will take a long time for people to be open about the issue. The change definitely needs to start with our film industry" Kirron Kher told Mumbai Mirror in an interview.

After Indiana debacle, states are showing off their LGBT friendliness

Trans rights bill unanimously passes India's Upper House of Parliament

The upper house of India's Parliament voted unanimously on Friday in favor of a bill to protect transgender rights. The vote in the chamber, called the Rajya Sabha, was extremely unusual. The bill was sponsored by an individual member and not by the government, and India’s Parliament has not passed a member-sponsored bill since 1970.

Gay rights dominates the social media conversation in Northern Ireland

Attitudes towards gay people have become a big election issue in Northern Ireland. It began with a viral video that's now all over the news. Northern Ireland Health Minister Jim Wells - who is standing in the U.K. general election for the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) — was filmed at a hustings recently. "You don't bring a child up in a homosexual relationship. That a child is far more likely to be abused and neglected," he said.
