IGLTA    Share   E-mail article
We are pleased to present our new co-ambassadors for Italy, two respected members of the business community who bring to the table more than 20 years of experience in tourism and activism. A resident of Pisa, Alessio De Giorgi is a leader of the gay movement in Italy, having served as a member of the First National Assembly of the Italian Democratic Party. As president of the largest gay association in Tuscany, he worked with the regional council to obtain approval of anti-discrimination laws based on sexual orientation. He also launched the LGBT travel consortium Friendly Versilia, is owner of the popular gay nightclub Mamma Mia in Torre de Lago, and is currently the Director of the Gay.It website. Alessio Virgili created Quiiky Tour Operator in 2007. With offices in Rome and Milan, this young, dynamic company is a member of Visit USA and today boasts more than 3,000 travel agencies under contract in Italy. In 2010, Alessio created AITGL, the Italian Association of Gay & Lesbian Tourism, to represent and promote LGBT tourism to the media, institutions, trade and consumers, and later that same year, proudly became a member Confindustria Assotravel. IGLTA's ambassador to Scandinavia, Tobias Holfelt of MB Market Makers, broke new ground on 23 May by hosting an LGBT-travel-seminar at the Sofitel Macau. Presented in association with Lufthansa, the event provided current research and market strategies for East Asian LGBT travel. This is the first in a series of 2011 events in the Greater China region, which are open to all IGLTA members. "We are happy to finally arrange these seminars," Hofelt said. "It's taken a lot of work to bring them to fruition, and we look forward to seeing how LGBT travel will develop in this fantastic part of the world. It is very satisfying to be able to introduce new businesses to the IGLTA network." For more information and to contact Tobias, email sweden@iglta.org.
