IGLTA has teamed up with the American Society of Travel Agents to offer an exclusive session on selling to the LGBT market at the ASTA Global Convention Aug. 29-Sept. 1 in Washington, D.C. Panelists include Lisa Cook of Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, Tom Alderink of Belmond and Jeff Gundvaldson of Brand g Vacations. Boy Scouts end ban on gay leaders, over protests by Mormon Church

The Boy Scouts of America on 27 July ended its ban on openly gay adult leaders. But the new policy allows church-sponsored units to choose local unit leaders who share their precepts, even if that means restricting such positions to heterosexual men.

Jamaica to hold 1st LGBT pride celebration

Jamaica is, sadly, a country renown for its violent homophobia, a place where the LGBT population the Human Rights Watch have said largely "live in constant fear." Homosexuality between men is illegal (a holdover from British Colonial law), yet the Caribbean nation is nonetheless set to hold its first ever Pride celebration next week. While security concerns prevent a parade, organizers have planned an full week of events.

Supreme Court ruling bolsters Australian marriage campaign

Australian advocates say last month's U.S. Supreme Court ruling that extended marriage rights to same-sex couples nationwide has bolstered efforts around the issue in their own country. Australian Marriage Equality National Director Rodney Croome told the Washington Blade during a Skype interview from the Tasmanian capital of Hobart on 8 July that the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Obergefell case has "really buoyed marriage equality supporters."

Gay rights in Eastern Europe: A new battleground for Russia and the West

The first time this tiny Baltic nation held a gay pride march, the minuscule crowd was pelted with rotten eggs and bottles under the copper-green spires of Riga's medieval old city. The participants — all 40 of them — fled to safety in a church. That was a decade ago. This year's parade drew thousands from across Europe, and the egg-throwers stayed at home.

Gay man brings legal challenge over blood donation ban

A young gay man has brought a High Court challenge after being told he is permanently deferred from donating blood here after he disclosed having had a sexual encounter with another man six months earlier. Tomás Heneghan, a student from Castlegar, Co Galway, has brought judicial review proceedings arguing he considers blood donation his civic responsibility.

Swedish nationalists plan gay 'pride' march through Muslim areas of Stockholm

Swedish nationalists are planning a gay "pride" march through Muslim-majority districts in the country's capital, according to media reports and a dedicated Facebook page. The march, called "Pride Järva," is scheduled to take place on July 29, and will pass through Tensta and Husby, majority-Muslim districts in Stockholm's north.
