The city is hoping to gain differentiated knowledge of the LGBT travel market, which will then be used to design suitable marketing strategies.

Travel Gay Canada: LGBT travelers like fishing and hunting too

There's a segment of every population that likes to hunt and fish — you just have to know how to reach them. That's the advice of Darrell Schuurman, co-founder of Travel Gay Canada and guest speaker recently at Northern Ontario Tourism summit in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Schuurman said he tells outfitters if they want to attract gay and lesbian visitors to their business, first they need to spend some time at local Pride events.

Gay rugby world cup to be held in Tennessee

The cup – named after rugby star Mark Bingham, who died onboard a plane during the Nov. 11 attacks – is an inclusive gay rugby tournament, often known as the gay rugby world cup, held every two years. This year's event was held in Sydney, Australia – and won by home team the Sydney Convicts.

State Department condemns Gambia's new anti-gay law

The U.S. State Department recently condemned the decision by Gambia's president to approve a law imposing life imprisonment for some homosexual acts. In a statement, Director of Press Relations Jeff Rathke said the State Department was also concerned about reports of recent arrests targeting at least four men, a 17-year-old boy and nine women accused of committing homosexual acts.

1st gay wedding in north Mexico state foiled by bomb threat

The first gay wedding in the Mexican state of Baja California had to be postponed again after a registry official refused to perform the ceremony and then announced a bomb threat. After a 19-month legal battle, hairstylists Victor Aguirre Espinoza, 43, and Fernando Urias Amparo, 37, were supposed to be the first gay couple to marry in the northwestern state on 21 November.

As gay marriages rise, now comes the case for same-sex divorce

VideoBriefIn 2008, Lauren Beth Czekala-Chatham traveled with her then-partner from their home in Mississippi to San Francisco, a few months after gay marriage became legal in California. They'd been together for about a year and a half before they decided to get married. After the ceremony, they went back to Mississippi, where they lived together. Then a year later, they decided to split up. The state of Mississippi doesn't recognize same-sex marriage, however, so they couldn't get a divorce there.

Amazon to get into hotel booking with launch of travel site

Amazon.com is poised to launch its own travel service, featuring booking at independent hotels and resorts near major cities, Skift has learned. The initial rollout of Amazon Travel would feature a curated selection of hotels within a few hours' drive from New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle. The service will likely go live around Jan. 1.
