EU court blocks gay asylum tests

The E.U.'s top court has ruled that refugees who claim asylum on the grounds that they are homosexual should not have to undergo tests to prove it. Three men, including a Ugandan and one from a Muslim country, failed in their bids for asylum when a Dutch court said they had not proved their sexuality.

Hundreds march in New Delhi for gay pride in Modi's India

Hundreds of people danced, sang and cheered in a gay pride parade in India's capital recently, the first since the country's top court reinstated a ban on gay sex in the world's largest democracy. Multi-colored balloons, masquerade masks and wigs, a huge rainbow flag and a St. Bernard dog ushered in the seventh Delhi Queer Pride parade, with many shaking their hips to drum beats.

Gay Games pumped $52 million into Cleveland-area economy, says new study

The 2014 Gay Games, which attracted nearly 8,000 athletes to Northeast Ohio in August, added $52 million to the local economy during the eight-day event, according to a just-completed study by two economics professors at Kent State University. That money was generated in obvious ways — hotel stays and restaurant purchases by visitors from out of town — and in some indirect ways as well, including additional spending by local waiters and bartenders, with extra money in their pockets after long hours at work.

Tijuana, Mexico, to make history with opening of 1st LGBT center

History is in the making in Tijuana, Mexico, next month when the bustling city south of the border opens its first-ever LGBT center. Fondo de Asistencia Para El Sida (Assistance Fund For AIDS) has secured space for the LGBT center in a city-owned complex in the Zona Centro (Central Zone) located on Avenida Madero just a short walk to the huge arch that towers over Avenida Revolución in Tijuana's historic downtown.

South Korea: Seoul scraps human rights charter after anti-gay protests

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has scrapped plans to enact a human rights charter, after fierce protests from homophobic groups. The city had been due to enact the charter next month, on 10 December – Human Rights Day. However, it picked up flack from church groups and conservatives because it included the right "not to be discriminated against based on his or her sexual orientation or sexual identity."

Canadian Olympic Committee offers new support to LGBTQ athletes

The Canadian Olympic Committee has announced its support for LGBTQ athletes in an agreement with You Can Play and Egale Canada, two North American anti-homophobia groups. The agreement includes training and support for Olympic athletes who want to come out. It's described as "the most wide-reaching such agreement by a national Olympic committee."
