Reflow Soldering
Advanced Assembly
Desktop or even home-made reflow ovens are becoming much more common in the tech world for both DIYers and small start-ups. The overall concept of reflow soldering is simple: put a pre-assembled board with some solder paste into an oven and bake it until the solder properly melts. As is true with many things in life, the actual application is a bit more complicated. When a board is reflowed, it typically is put through four different stages or zones of the reflow process. The difference between stages or zones is dependent on the reflow process.

It's only common sense: The 2015 IPC Technology Roadmap
PCB007
Dan Beaulieu writes: Last week we talked about planning and how important it is to a company’s future success. We discussed how important it is to sit down with your team members and plot out the future of your company. But one of the questions that came up after that was: How can you do that? In fact, someone called to ask if there is some kind of document, some kind of report that can help printed circuit board companies evaluate where they are today and where they plan to be tomorrow, vis-a vis where their customers are going.

Defects in atomically thin semiconductor emit single photons
R&D Magazine
Researchers at the University of Rochester have shown that defects on an atomically thin semiconductor can produce light-emitting quantum dots. The quantum dots serve as a source of single photons and could be useful for the integration of quantum photonics with solid-state electronics — a combination known as integrated photonics.

Optical interconnects
PCB007
When we hear of optical interconnects or optical signal transmission, we think of the long-distance signal transmission through glass fibers, the conversion of ocean floor cables to glass fibers, and the establishment of glass fiber transmission lines between cities in the late 1990s, followed by intra-city glass fiber lines and glass fiber networks that connect buildings.
