3-D white graphene could make tunable fan-free cooling for electronics
Gizmodo
Fans, on numerous levels, suck: They’re noisy and use up power. But a 3-D form of the material known as white graphene could help cool small electronic devices by itself. Researchers from Rice University have carried out simulations of heat flows through a 3-D structure made of boron nitride, also known as white graphene.

3-D printed 'smart cap' uses electronics to sense spoiled food
Phys.org
It might not be long before consumers can just hit "print" to create an electronic circuit or wireless sensor in the comfort of their homes. UC Berkeley engineers, in collaboration with colleagues at Taiwan's National Chiao Tung University, are expanding the already impressive portfolio of 3-D printing technology to include electrical components, such as resistors, inductors, capacitors and integrated wireless electrical sensing systems.

Ghostly particle with no mass finally created in the lab
Live Science
A long-sought particle with no mass proposed more than 85 years ago has finally been created in the lab. The mysterious particle, called a Weyl fermion, emerged from a crystal of a material called a semi-metal. The new discovery not only sheds light on the behavior of one of the most elusive fundamental particles, it could pave the way for ultra-low-power electronics, said study co-author Su-Yang Xu, a physicist at Princeton University in New Jersey.

For faster, larger graphene add a liquid layer
R&D Magazine
Millimeter-sized crystals of high-quality graphene can be made in minutes instead of hours using a new scalable technique, Oxford University researchers have demonstrated. In just 15 minutes the method can produce large graphene crystals around 2 to 3 mm in size that would take up to 19 hours to produce using current chemical vapor deposition techniques in which carbon in gas reacts with, for example, copper to form graphene.

Wood-based computer chips could be the answer to the electronic waste crisis
Quartz
Wood-based computer chips are a reality, and they could make the recycling of electronics a much simpler task. Developed at the University of Wisconsin by a group led by engineering professor Zhenqiang (Jack) Ma, the wood-derived computer chip is made by processing wood into nanocellulose paper, which is then used as a substitute for a silicon.
