While most performance fabric manufacturers described Showtime as steady or good, Tom Byrnes said the response at the Liora Manne booth was unbelievable. In addition to fabric swatches, the designer's vibrant colors and patterns appeared on mannequins, ottomans, rugs and pillows constructed to go outdoors. "We're getting a lot of credit for uniqueness of design," said Byrnes, marketing director, Liore Manne.

BuildFax, which collects and analyzes construction records from across the country, said its BuildFax Remodeling Index for April shows that home remodeling and renovating continues to rise. The report reveals continued year-over-year gains, with data demonstrating that consumers are continuing to invest in remodeling, even while the economy continues to struggle and the real-estate market continues to experience sales decreases

US container imports jump 9.27 percent in May

Container shipments of consumer and commercial goods rose in May, according to an analysis by Zepol Corp., which collects and reports on international trade data. U.S. imports of 20-foot equivalent containers rose 9.27 percent from April and 8.76 percent from May 2010, while total worldwide shipments rose 9.35 percent from April and more than 9 percent from May.

AATCC has announced the winners of its sixth annual Materials Research Poster Competition for students. The competition (developed by AATCC's Materials Interest Group) aims to promote innovative product development from a material structures design perspective.
