2014 election ballots mailed this week

KAFP is pleased to announce the 2014 candidates for district directors and officer roles. Please take the time to review each candidate’s statement at http://kafponline.org/Education/AnnualMeeting/201415Candidates/ before casting your vote.

If you live or work in District 2, 4, 6, 7 or 8, you should receive a ballot in the US Mail soon for District Director. Click here to see a map of the districts. If you are a member in one of those districts and you don’t get a ballot, please contact the KAFP office (kafp@kafponline.org) at 316.721.9005. District Director ballots must be received back at KAFP by Thursday, April 24, 2014 to be counted.

Core Content Review of Family Medicine
KAFP
The Core Content Review of Family Medicine is available through the Connecticut/Ohio Academies of Family Physicians. It is a comprehensive, practical and effective self-testing, home study postgraduate education program. It examines all aspects of family medicine and is intended to help you help yourself maximize your medical knowledge and skill, which you employ to serve the needs of your patients. The program is approved for 48 hours of prescribed credit by the AAFP.

KAFP cooperates with the Core Content Review in making this educational program available to our members. For registration information and fees, contact the Core Content Review of Family Medicine, P. Family Doctor of the Day — April 3 open

Thank YOU for making the Family Doctor of the Day a successful program. This important volunteer opportunity is greatly appreciated by legislators!

Please go to the KAFP website and follow directions and enter your name into the calendar for an open date: April 3, May 13, 14 or 15 (We don't know for sure if the legislature will be in session for the May dates but hope to get FDOD volunteers just in case. We will notify volunteers when the session is over if they are needed.)

KHERF scholarships — Deadline March 31

Do you know someone seeking a healthcare degree who needs scholarship help? Pre-med and medical students are not eligible. You may know someone who is eligible. Any Kansan who is seeking a degree or certificate not currently held in any health care discipline is encouraged to apply to the Kansas Hospital Education and Research Foundation's (KHERF) scholarship program. Sixteen scholarships will be given through the KHERF scholarship program in 2014! Think about who you know who would be eligible.

Sec. Moser announces new Director of Oral Health
KDHE
Cathy Taylor-Osborne, D.D.S., M.A., has been selected as the next director of the Bureau of Oral Health at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. She began her post at KDHE on March 21. Dr. Taylor fills a vacancy created in September 2013 when Dr. Kathy Weno left KDHE for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta as the Division of Oral Health Director, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
