'Family Medicine Tobacco Office Champions' applications now being accepted

The KAFP is now accepting applications from Kansas family practices interested in becoming Family Medicine Tobacco Office Champions. Each practice will identify a Physician Champion and an Office Champion to lead their practice. 10 practices will be selected for the project, which is funded by a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation and based upon the AAFP Office Champions programs.

Free EHR and meaningful use assistance svailable

Kansas Foundation for Medical Care and KDHE's Division of Health Care Finance are working together to assist Medicaid healthcare providers in Kansas by offering health information technology assistance.

Services offered include:
•EHR Selection
•EHR Implementation
•Meaningful Use Assistance
•Information Systems Security Management
•Process Analysis and Redesign
•Health Information Exchange Connectivity

You are eligible for these free services if all four of the following statements are true for you:
1. I am contracted with at least one of the three managed care organizations — United Healthcare, Sunflower, Amerigroup — as a Medicaid provider or I have a Kansas Medical Assistance Program Fee-for-Service number.
2. I am a physician, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife or dentist.
3. I have not attested to Meaningful Use in the CMS EHR Incentive Program.
4. I am not hospital-based. An eligible professional is considered hospital-based if 90 percent or more of his or her services are performed in a hospital inpatient — Place Of Service code 21 — or emergency room — Place Of Service code 23 — setting.

4 more measles cases reported in Sedgwick County, Kansas
Kansas Department of Health and Environment
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Sedgwick County Health Department have reported four additional cases of measles in Sedgwick County, Kansas. One case was in an adult linked to a recent outbreak of measles in the Kansas City metropolitan area, and who is an employee at Sal's Japanese Steakhouse; two other adults were also employees at Sal's Japanese Steakhouse and became infected. The fourth case was in an unvaccinated infant whose only known exposure was at the restaurant.

TPOPP Wichita free workshop July 25
KAFP
Transportable Physician Orders for Patient Preferences program in Wichita-Sedgwick County, Kansas, is designed to improve the quality of care people receive at the end of life by translating their treatment goals and preferences into their medical orders. TPOPP is based on communication between the patient or surrogate and their physician and health care providers that ensures informed medical decision-making occurs.

Use of the TPOPP Form began April 16. Local hospitals have written policies to direct the use of the TPOPP medical orders.

You are invited to learn more about TPOPP Wichita on July 25, from 2-4 p.m., at East Heights UMC, 4407 East Douglas. This two-hour workshop will provide an introduction to the TPOPP program and participants will gain information about how to use the TPOPP form with patients who have chronic, advanced illness or terminal illness. Case studies will be used to discuss how to have the conversation with patients and their families about end of life wishes and completing the TPOPP form. Registration is free.
